Raspberry Beret FAQ's

What can I find at Raspberry Beret?

We specialize in eccentric vintage and on-trend, well-made contemporary statement apparel and accessories. Brands like Anthropologie, Free People, Coach, and Madewell are among our top sellers. We carry feminine and masculine apparel to fit your every need.

We do not consign furniture or home goods, children’s apparel, traditional office attire, fast fashion like Forever 21 or SHEIN, or traditional bride/bridesmaids dresses.

I have clothes I’d like to consign. How do I do that?

All consignment is taken by appointment and on a seasonal basis. Appointment availability varies by location and season. Wait times can vary from 24 hours to 6 weeks! Use our convenient appointment request forms or call your local shop to find out more about availability.

As of 11/15/24, our Maynard location is no longer accepting consignment.

Consider contacting our Cambridge store to book an appointment, but be aware that in-style vintage and unique contemporary is the priority at this location. Additionally, with the rise in demand for appointments, wait times may be longer than usual.

Do you buy clothes?

We no longer offer cash buyout options. All inventory will be taken on consignment or through private acquisition.

I have a lot of stuff. How much can I bring in?

We ask that you bring no more than 25-35 apparel items. Jewelry and accessories do not necessarily count towards your item count, but be sure to let us know if you have a substantial quantity so we can approach your appointment to the best of our abilities.

Due to the modest size of our boutiques, our racks can only accommodate certain quantities of incoming items.

Consignors are permitted one appointment per season, which generally equates to once every 60 days -- the length of our standard consignment period.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare my items?

We ask that all items brought in for consideration are clean, damage-free, and brought to the shop in some kind of reusable bag, box, bin, suitcase, etc. Please no trash bags, hangers, or dry cleaning bags. Small quantities of high end items on hangers is permitted, but our preference is for items to be folded.

Take the time at home to inspect your items for damage: stains, odors, pilling, missing buttons, broken zippers, degrading embellishments, holes, etc. The better the condition of your items, the higher the chance of a sale!

What happens when my items sell?

Consignors earn 40% of each item’s sale price within 60 days. Everything is kept track of electronically, and you can check the status of your consignment through our Consignor Portal.

What happens to items that don’t sell?

Unsold items after 60 days will be donated to local non-profit, Mass Appeal International, where they will be redistributed to those in our community who need them most. Items priced by Raspberry Beret at $50 or more* are eligible for return by request.

*Items priced at $50 or more usually have a modern retail value of $150-200 or more or are exceptional vintage pieces. All prices are determined by Raspberry Beret staff and are non-negotiable.

How do you price items?

All items are researched prior to being put on the floor. For contemporary items, we typically price at around ⅓ of retail value; ½ if New With Tags. For items without a modern retail value, like vintage, we consider what similar items are selling for elsewhere, what similar items have sold for with us in the past, and where the items fall on the spectrum of demand. All prices reflect factors like condition and quality, demand, and rarity. Prices are established by our knowledgeable staff and are non-negotiable.

How/when do I get paid?

We encourage using your balance as store credit (you get a 15% discount when you do!) but balances of $20 or more are paid out at the end of your consignment period. We offer payment via check, PayPal, and Venmo. Checks can be picked up at the store or mailed. If you are a frequent shopper, you can opt to keep your balance in your account to use as store credit in lieu of a check, as well.

Maynard FAQ's

So..what's actually happening?

At this time, our Maynard store will remain open, though we are changing our business model. Moving forward, we will no longer be accepting any consignment at this location.

This will not affect the quality you have come to expect from our boutique! Our inventory acquisition process may be changing, but our commitment to our mission statement of providing sustainable, high quality, affordable, and fashionable apparel and accessories remained unaffected :-)

Where did this come from?

The decision to transition our business model is one that has been weighed heavily, and made with the best interest of the business and our customers' in mind.

With more control over our inventory and a restructuring of staff responsibilities, our goal is to provide an even better shopping experience for our beloved customers!

What about the items I currently have on consignment?

All items that are actively on consignment will remain on consignment under the full policies of our consignment agreement. As if nothing was changing, they will remain on the sales floor until they sell or expire.

You will still earn 40% of all sold items through the remainder of your consignment period, and your payout preferences will be honored.

Unsold items priced at $50 or more can still be returned by request. Please contact us if you would like us to pull your eligible items at the end of your consignment period.

Not sure if you have eligible items? Check your Available Items list through our consignor portal!

What happens to my account balance?

Funds in your account can still be used as store credit (with a 15% discount automatically applied) at any of our locations (including our new Pop-Up shop in Allston!) or you can contact us to make sure you are on the payout list for next month.

Can I still bring you my clothes?

Not at this time, but follow us on social media for announcements about Spring buyout events where you can bring your clothes to sell on select days!

Is Cambridge still accepting consignment?

Yes -- Our Cambridge store will continue to accept consignment. This location specializes in funky, unique, in-style vintage and higher-end contemporary apparel. Check out the Cambridge Instagram feed for examples of preferred styles.

The Cambridge store is not actively looking for new consignors, but you are welcome to request an appointment. Please keep in mind that the styles preferred in Cambridge differ from those previously consigned in Maynard, and that our staff is at liberty to approve and deny appointment requests based on the demand for items and styles.

Where will your inventory come from?

We'll be sourcing our inventory in a few different ways; some new to us, some that take us back to our roots.

While this change may come with some learning curves, one thing is certain: there is, by no means, a shortage of perfectly wearable yet still discarded clothing on this planet.

Over our 20 years in business, we have acquired a number of behind-the-scenes contacts that are prepared to keep high quality, in-style apparel stocked in our store and out of landfills!

How can I stay in the loop ahead of any future updates?

The best way to stay up to date is by following us on social media.

We post frequently on our Facebook and Instagram, so be sure to follow us to be the first to hear about upcoming Buy/Trade events!
